Sakina N. Riddell provides legal counsel to clients on tax credit financing transactions for affordable housing and community development projects, which includes complex commercial real estate and financing transactions utilizing tax credit syndication and other financing sources, including Federal New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) and Federal and New York State Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), taxable and tax-exempt bonds, conventional debt, government loan and subsidy programs. On NMTC transactions, she represents QALICBs, leverage lenders, community development entities, and source lenders to finance various community development projects. On LIHTC transactions, she represents developers, lenders, and investors on senior and multi-family affordable housing development projects.
She received her B. A., cum laude, from Duke University, and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
She is currently a member of the board of directors of the Minority Bar Foundation and a member of the Membership Committee of the New York State Association for Affordable Housing (NYSAFAH).
She is a past recipient of Buffalo Business First’s 40 Under 40 Award and 1490 Enterprises Inc.’s 35th Annual Black Achievers in Industry Award. Ms. Riddell is a member of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Affordable Housing and Community Development Law, the New York State Bar Association, and the Bar Association of Erie County. She is a Past President of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York, and a past board member of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, Western New York Chapter.
