Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo has nearest to 15 years of experience in leadership, research, teaching, consultancy, different event coordination, and advisory work in the areas of water, climate change, capacity development, and policy.
Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo is the Nile River Basin Investment Program (NR-BIP) Regional Coordinator/Expert at Nile Basin Initiative Nile-SEC since July 1st, 2023. She is responsible for management of the NR-BIP activities within the NBI with support from the NR-BIP Task Team.
Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo is a founder, founding member and President of the Ethiopian Women in Water Association since it was established. She is leading the overall activities of the association to achieve its objectives.
Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo was Assistant Professor at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, and she was Teaching Masters Courses in Sewer and Urban Drainage Systems, Scientific Research Methods and conducting researches.
Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo has nearest to 4 years of experience in Transboundary water affairs negotiation, advising negotiation team members and ministers, facilitating hydro-diplomacy training, facilitating negotiation, internal consultation, and regional meetings, and doing hydrological analysis.
Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo has nearly 4 years of experience preparing regular briefs and offering technical support and advice to the Ministers on matters related to the Nile cooperation and the sustainable management of the Nile water resources. She has good experience acting as an interface between the minister and development partners and other stakeholders and between the minister and the NBI and its center and AMCOW programs and projects.
Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo has been the Director General of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Basins Development Authority from November 2018 to October 2021 for 3 years. Her work was focused on directing and administering the activities of the Authority; exercising the powers and duties of the Authority; employing and administering the employees of the Authority in accordance with the federal civil service laws; preparing annual work plans and budgets of the Authority and implementing the same upon approval; effect expenditures; representing the Authority in all its dealings with third parties; submitting to the Ministry performance and reports of the Authority.
Before she become to Basins Development Authority, Dr. Adanech worked at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University as an Assistant Professor, Associate Dean for the College of Architecture and Civil Engineering graduate programs, and different committee members.
Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo reviewed 26 UNESCO Special Publications on Youth and Water Security in Africa papers and one Eco-hydrology book.
She has over 14 years of university teaching and advising experience. Have experience in preparing inception reports, collecting information and data for hydropower design and designing hydropower schemes, designing dam appurtenant structures, preparing hydrological reports for 16 different water supply projects and one groundwater recharge project; designing irrigation canals; consulting and designing different projects; revise pre-feasibility and feasibility reports of different projects.
Dr. Adanech Yared Jillo received the Award of Young Female Academician/Researcher of the University with Extra Ordinary Achievement, Discipline, and Enthusiasm in December 2012 and Received the Norman E. Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agricultural Program (LEAP) fellowship award in April 2014. She is also the Mother’s Honorary Ambassador of Zeri Ethiopia.
She has very good experience in project evaluation, dam engineering, the design of dam appurtenant structures, hydrological modeling, hydroclimate, and water resources system modeling, climate change impact assessment and adaptation (climate and water), and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
