Lorenzo Alfieri is a researcher in the Hydrology and Hydraulics division at CIMA Foundation. He has a background in Civil Engineering and earned a PhD in Hydraulic Engineering at the Polytechnic of Torino, Italy. He has over 12 years of post-doctoral experience in international institutions, including the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF and the European Commission - Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC). He has been active in more than 15 European and international research projects related to flood forecasting, flood hazard and risk modeling, as well as climate change risk assessment and adaptation strategies. He is among the core developers of the European and the Global Flood Awareness System, two operational early warning systems of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMS).
