Mohammed is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is also an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow at Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, and a visiting research fellow at the University of Manchester, UK. His research is on the engineering and economics of coupled human-natural systems, focusing on river basins. Mohammed holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Khartoum, Sudan, a Master of Science in Integrated Water Resources Management from Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Germany, and a Ph.D. in water resources engineering and economics from The University of Manchester, UK. Previously, Mohammed worked as a consultant to the World Bank Group, where he assisted in conducting studies on disaster risk management in South Asia. He is currently an external expert for the Joint Research Center of the European Commission, where he provides support on using artificial intelligence in economic planning. Mohammed was a consultant to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations and is currently a consultant to the International Food Policy Research Institute. Mohammed's core research focuses on designing balanced solutions for complex water resource systems using state-of-the-art river system and economic modeling approaches coupled with artificial intelligence search and machine learning techniques.
