Gender and Youth in Transboundary Water Management (Join Session)

Firmina Ajonye Acuba is a Senior Sociologist / Gender Expert in the Ministry of Water and Environment in Uganda.
Firmina hold a Maters Degree in Develoment Studies from the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, Netherlands, BA, in Social Sciences of Makerere Universty Kampala, Uganda, a Postgraduate Diplma in Management at Uganda Management Institue and a Certificate in Laws at the Law Development Centre in Kampala, Ugnada.
She is an experienced gender specialist and trainer in the Water and Enviroment sector spanning over 20 years now. She led the gender mainstreaming initiative in the water and enviornemnt sector in Uganda, that made her over see the development of the first water and sanitation subsector gender strategy in Uganda. She also led the development of the first Africa Ministers Counicl on Water [AMCOW] gender startegy. She well experience in Social Impact Assessment / Social Safeguards .
Firmina has steered the development and implementation of several gender policy documents in the water and environment setcor and conducted several training and capcity building workshops in enffort to advocate for and mainstream gender. In addition to gender work, she as also done alot of work in policy and strategy development and implemenation on HIV and AIDS mainstreaming.
A seasoned training specialist, Firmina has developed training materials to aid her work in Central and Local Governments. As she does her work she has a human rights perspecive in the work she does. Lately inaddtion to her routine work, Ms Acuba has been assigned the resposiblity to coordinate an initiative to prevent Sexual Harrsemnt in the work as part of human rights observation and increase productivity of workers and stakehoders.
In additon to membership to several organsation, Ms Acuba is a member of Women in Water Diplomacy Global Network, a network that promotes inclusiveness, especially of women’s representation in transboundary water decsion making .
