Sunday is market day in Buenos Aires, an opportunity to explore the real Buenos Aires.
This morning we will begin our adventure in La Boca, a colorful district located at the mouth of the Riachuelo River. Here lies Caminito Street, a vibrant pedestrian alley designed by Italian-Argentine artist Benito Quinquela Martin. This street is lined with brightly painted houses made of corrugated iron, recalling the 19th-century tradition of dockworkers painting their homes with leftover ship paint. This street is famous for musicians and local artists selling their works.
Next, we will head to the celebrated antiques market in San Telmo with its narrow cobbled streets and colonial architecture. This market is filled with stalls offering everything from vintage jewelry to beautiful glassware. Here, you will see street performers entertaining passing pedestrians with tango music and dance, puppet shows, and living statues.
We will conclude the day in Palermo and its Plaza Serrano Fair is where local artisans and hippies hang out to sell their wares. Here you can take advantage of the many bars and restaurants as you enjoy shopping before returning to the hotel.
Lunch at a local restaurant will be included in this spectacular day.
