Attendees to this session will receive six hours of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education Credits. This session will address methods for attaining success with multi-lingual learners. Educators will receive a certificate and rubric paperwork after the conference to submit to the Colorado Department of Education for approval.
Addressing the Affective Domain 5.09 Quality Standard I: Educators are knowledgeable about CLD populations. 5.09(1) ELEMENT A: Educators are knowledgeable in, understand, and are able to apply the major theories, concepts, and research related to culture, diversity and equity in order to support academic access and opportunity for CLD student populations.
5.10 Quality Standard II: Educators should be knowledgeable in first and second language acquisition. 5.10(2) ELEMENT B: Educators are knowledgeable of, understand, and able to apply the major theories, concepts and research related to culture, diversity, and equity in order to support academic success and opportunity for CLD student populations.

Evelyn Adams is an ESL teacher in Academy School District 20 with 22 years of experience in education. She is balancing her full-time teaching role with completing her dissertation at UCCS.
Liz Southerland has been in education since 1997. She has taught in four different countries, various states and many different grade levels and subjects.
Mary has an extensive background in teaching English to both children and adults in Mexico, Poland, England, France, and in the United States, Mary has taught in public, private, and charter schools as well as in community colleges and universities.
Stephanie Dewing, Ph.D., is a former classroom teacher and coach who specializes in language and literacy development, with an emphasis on supporting and empowering newcomer students and their families.
Bemar Martinez earned her MA in Nonprofit Management while working at Regis University. She then became a Community Advocate at NL to pursue her passion for working closely with young adults, and she currently serves as the RWL Coordinator.
Dallana Alvarado, an educator at New Legacy, holds an MA in Curriculum, Instruction, and Critical Pedagogy, specializing in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education. She is committed to fostering a welcoming environment for immigrant students.
Kim Boylan has been with the Colorado Department of Education for nearly 20 years, starting in the Exceptional Student Services Unit before transferring to the Federal Programs and Supports Unit in April, 2022.
Rachel Temple has specialized in language acquisition for nearly 20 years. She has served as an ELL teacher, a bilingual teacher, and a K-5 Spanish teacher in Houston, TX and Colorado Springs.
Marie Mendoza, Ph.D. currently serves as the Executive Director of Instructional Services in a large urban district in the Houston, Texas area.
