For many years NYSSA has organized an Adirondack Snowmobile Trails Conference. The Conference allows for Adirondack snowmobile clubs to discuss with officials from DEC their trail-related concerns. No conference was held in 2017 as a lawsuit against the DEC & APA and the subsequent court-ordered injunction halted snowmobile trail work from being performed but we did hold one in the Spring of 2018. With that lawsuit pending an appeal by the State, NYSSA still thinks it is important to meet to go over issues that need to be addressed. This year we are looking at a Fall meeting date as a change to our format, to see how that works out for everyone.
Over the past decade, these conferences have brought together local snowmobile club reps and town officials to discuss with NYS DEC, APA, Parks, and DOT representatives regarding any snowmobile-related issues that are ongoing as well as to go over recent past projects along with future needed projects. DEC will send representatives from both Region 5 and Region 6, with State regulations and state land-use policies gone over with those needing to know about them. Other state agency reps have been invited and we hope to have at least 1 from each to help answer questions. During the meeting, presentations highlighting the very positive working relationship that has been forged over the recent years between the State agencies that oversee state-owned and administered lands with the volunteers and/or employees who maintain the snowmobile trails within The Blue Line.
Snowmobile trails are vital to the Adirondack communities and businesses, so this meeting is important for club reps and DEC officials to meet to discuss the regulations and policies governing snowmobile use in the Adirondack Forest Preserve.
Coffee/water will be served at the beginning of the meeting and again during a brief break at around noontime, along with danishes/cookies for a small snack.
Registration is required. Registration is limited to 40 club representatives.
