The Idaho Transportation Department's (ITD) Traffic Incident Management or TIM Program is dedicated to improving the on-scene safety of Idaho's incident responders. By increasing outreach awareness of TIM practices, the program can increase the reliability of Idaho roadways and the livability of our communities.

TRAFFIC INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TRAINING

This is a FREE Training!  Traffic Incident Management (TIM) consists of a planned and coordinated multi-disciplinary process to detect, respond to and clear traffic incidents so that traffic flow may be restored as safely and quickly as possible.  TIM Responder Training brings together personnel across the responder spectrum to build a stronger, more coordinated corps at the local and national levels.

The GOAL of this training is to provide quarterly training based on geographic regions to all of Idaho in the coming year.  Since the program began in Idaho, 396 Incident Responders have been training and 118 TIM Trainers have been certified.  The key to building stronger incident response teams is to train responders across all agencies together.  Then, these trained responders train their colleagues. expanding the reach of the TIM Program across Idaho.

Traffic Incident Management is important because it:

  • SAVES LIVES - Crashes and "struck-by" incidents continue to be a leading cause of on-duty injuries and deaths for public safety responders and support teams responding to highway incidents.
  • SAVES TIME - Traffic incidents are a contributing factor to congestion in the United States.  For every minute a freeway lane is blocked due to an incident, it results in four minutes of travel delay.
  • SAVES MONEY - Less time spent in backups, fewer secondary crashes and reduced insurance claims mean less financial loss due to highway incidents.

It takes a TEAM of response agencies to work together to respond to highway incidents, including:

  • Law Enforcement
  • Fire
  • Transportation
  • Emergency Medical Services
  • Towing
  • Public Works
  • Haz-Mat Disciplines
