Beyond the Needs Assessment: Using Equity-Driven Data Strategies for Successful CS Development
Virtual Learning Workshop focused on data and needs assessment processes, including tools and resources
April 30, 2024
9:30 AM - 11:30 AM (PT)

No matter what stage of community school development you are in, gathering, analyzing, and communicating about your data is a foundational practice. Whether it’s undergoing a formal needs assessment and asset mapping process, gauging the impact of an external partnership, or measuring progress towards goals, community school practitioners work with data all the time. …Or do they? Whether we like it or not, “data” can mean different things to different people. Each of us has a different comfort level with gathering, analyzing and using data, and many of us aren’t engaging with our data as much as we could (and know that we should)–especially if we’re only doing it to check a box. If any of this sounds familiar, CSLX and Public Profit have a learning opportunity for you!

Beyond the Needs Assessment: Using Equity-Driven Data Strategies for Successful CS Development is a two-hour virtual workshop designed to help you understand data collection and analysis through a community school lens. Facilitated by the Community Schools Learning Exchange (CSLX) and Public Profit, this interactive session will walk you through the different processes and strategies you can use to truly live with and use your data–and give you opportunities to practice new skills and share your own practices.

As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Learn how to view data collection and analysis through a community school lens, including creating a data culture of collaborative curiosity and learning;
  • Gain an understanding of how data is used at different stages of community school development;
  • Get opportunities to practice interactive data collection and meaning making practices with your fellow community school practitioners; and
  • Receive FREE tools and materials designed to support your equity-driven work.

FAQs

Who, specifically, is this for?

Beyond the Needs Assessment: Using Equity-Driven Data Strategies for Successful CS Development is designed for school-site and LEA level individuals who are thinking about or working directly with data and are be eager to learn how to make  their data collection and analysis  more useful, nuanced and equity-grounded. You’ll learn some new strategies, practice new skills, and share your own tips and practices.

Who from my team should I bring?

We recommend bringing the person and people who work on the ground to lead your Community School strategy at school sites: community school coordinators, principals, teachers; and/or those at the district-level that lead your community cchool initiatives. So we can ensure a meaningful and engaging virtual experience for all our participants, we humbly ask LEAs to limit attendance from their LEA to 10 people.

How much does it cost and what is included?

The fee for each individual is $180. Those coming with their teams should pay a registration fee for each person who is attending.

We haven’t conducted our Needs Assessment yet. Should I still attend?

Yes! This workshop is designed for anyone who works with and thinks about data and/or their needs assessment journey – read: almost everyone that is part of community school work. Having conducted a Needs Assessment is not a condition for access!

I’m looking for personalized support with my Needs Assessment. Will I get that here?

No. This is a participatory,  introductory session that is designed  to give  you the tools, strategies, and resources to guide your community school development work. During the workshop, there will be opportunities to share out about your individual contexts during small group breakouts, but no individualized support.

What if I want more one-on-one support?

We’d love to hear more! Just send us a note at love@cslx.org so we can discuss other options that might enable us to provide you with more individualized support on your needs assessment and asset mapping processes.

How can I access the materials or tools we discuss once we’re done?

Registered participants will receive the materials and resources we cover through a shared Google drive.
