Barrier cables: Designing for Life Safety
Description:
Vehicle barriers are an essential but often overlooked component of the life safety system in a parking structure. Barrier cable systems are a popular and economical solution that is flexible, lightweight, and aesthetically pleasing. This presentation will explore some of the design implications and engineering considerations necessary when designing for vehicle barrier cable in new and existing parking structures before discussing the “nuts and bolts” of barrier cable system details, hardware, and installation. Participants should come away with a better understanding of this system and be well-equipped to incorporate barrier cable into their structural design from an early stage.
