This important town hall style event is designed to educate the local South Island salmon angling community about the three serious issues threatening our Chinook salmon fisheries. Allocation uncertainty, questionable Southern Resident Killer Whale recovery measures and new overly restrictive fisheries management issues pose a direct threat to the Canadian public being able to access abundant Pacific Chinook salmon in 2026 and beyond. The meeting will explain the threats and recommend actions that anglers can take to assist in the advocacy efforts to keep our Chinook fishery open and strong.
There will be three short but excellent presentations to start the event, followed by an open question period for event attendees to learn more and air their concerns. Media and politicians are welcome to join us. Federal, provincial and municipal politicians in attendance will be invited to address the audience after the presentations.
There will be a selection of door prizes - each attendee will receive a free ticket upon arrival - donations, small or large, to support salmon fishing advocacy are welcome.
The event is sponsored by: The BC Wildlife Federation, the Public Fishery Alliance, the Sport Fishing Institute of BC, the BC Federation of Drift Fishers, South Vancouver Island Anglers Coalition, Fraser Valley Angling Guide Association, Fraser River Sportfishing Alliance, Fred's Custom Tackle, Campbell River Fishing Guides Association, Fraser Valley Salmon Society
Jesse will share his extensive knowledge about the Salmon Allocation Policy review process and update the rally attendees about the process
Martin will share his inside the tent knowledge of the Salmon Allocation Policy consultations and provide information on SRKW and Fraser Summer 5-2 Chinook
Andrew will share how, as a business reliant on a healthy vibrant salmon fishery, he could be negatively impacted by the threats facing our fishery.
