Join the Idaho Transportation Department for a two-day litter cleanup effort along US-95 from Granite Hill all the way to Interstate 90!
Operation Clean Sweep is your chance to make a visible impact on your community by helping remove trash and debris from one of our most highly traveled corridors.
The event runs April 23–24. Volunteers, age16 or older, must register and report to ITD's Athol shed (6303 E. Parks Road) between 7:00 and 9:00 AM on either morning to check in, pick up equipment, and attend a quick safety talk. From there, you’ll be assigned to a work crew along the US-95 corridor. It's up to you to choose how long you want to stay—whether it's just a couple of hours or the full day. Crews will wrap up each day by 4 p.m.
Litter is more than just ugly—it’s harmful to the environment and dangerous for road crews. Spring is when we need the most help, as months of built-up trash emerge with the melting snow, and it’s a challenge to keep up. By volunteering, you’ll help restore the natural beauty of the highway and promote safer, cleaner roads for everyone. Plus, you'll be setting a powerful example to keep our highways clean long after the trash bags are full.
If you enjoy volunteering and making a difference, this event is a great way to get involved with our Adopt a Highway program, a long-term initiative aimed at helping keep Idaho beautiful and safe. Talk to an ITD team member during the event to learn how you or your group can adopt a stretch of roadway.
This is a great opportunity for anyone needing to complete volunteer hours for school or community service projects—ITD staff will sign off on hour verification forms at the end of the day.
**Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 17 will be required to have a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian to participate. A link to a printable version of this form can be found under the "Agenda" section of this page.
Safety vests and collection bags, and safety information will be provided by ITD. We also recommend participants bring weather-appropriate attire, gloves, and water.
