Latter Day Histories is a three part lecture series that features the latest research in Mormon history from award winning members of our community. Our goal is to provide globally accessible content to MHA members and the general public. Everyone is welcome! Each lecture includes a presentation, interview, and moderated Q&A. The series begins in the fall and ends in spring just before the annual Mormon History Association conference with all proceeds earmarked for live streaming and recording of the annual conference.
We invite you to attend MHA’s inaugural 2023/24 Latter Day Histories lectures, which includes lectures with Richard Bushman (Colombia University) "Do the Gold Plates Matter?" and interview with Kris Wright; Elisa Pulido (Independent Historian) "Marriage and Divorce in the Latter Day Saint Tradition: Parallel Histories" and interview with Amanda Hendrix-Komoto; and Christopher Blythe (Brigham Young University) "Emma Hale Smith In the Eyes of Her LDS Descendants" and interview with Janiece Johnson.
The 2024/25 Latter Day Histories theme is Global Mormonism with speakers TBD.
Author of Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling, Richard Bushman received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University and taught at Brigham Young University, Boston University, and the University of Delaware.
Elisa Eastwood Pulido is a Religious Historian and the author of The Spiritual Evolution of Margarito Bautista: Mexican Mormon Evangelizer, Polygamist Dissident, and Utopian Founder, 1878-1961 (Oxford: 2020), which won the 2021 MHA Best Biography award.
Christopher James Blythe is an assistant professor of folklore at Brigham Young University. He is the author of the MHA award winning book Terrible Revolution: Latter-day Saints and the American Apocalypse (Oxford 2020).
