Fire Resistive Construction Requirements of the IBC - 2 PDHs

This seminar will provide attendees with an overview of the 2020 Building Code of New York State (based on the 2018 IBC) Chapter 7 requirements for fire resistance-rated construction. This will include requirements for fire-resistant assemblies and fire-protection ratings for opening requirements. 

The seminar will provide attendees with insight on how walls, ceilings, structural elements and opening protectives are tested to achieve fire-resistance or fire-protection ratings. Attendees will receive useful tips for conducting plan review and field inspections to ensure code compliance with IBC Chapter 7 requirements.

Speaker:  Bruce Johnson
He is currently a Regulatory Services Regional Manager in UL’s Codes and Regulatory Services Department and is responsible for UL’s US regulatory operations.  Prior to March 2019, he held the position of Senior Regulator Engineer, a position he held since joining UL in April 2015.

He serves on several ICC and NFPA model code development committees, including the IFC Code Development Committee, NFPA 1 Fire Code Technical Committees; NFPA 101/5000 Fundamentals and Fire Protection Features Technical Committees.  Bruce preciously served on the ICC Building Code Action Committee (2017-2019)

Prior to joining UL, Bruce served thirty plus years in the fire, emergency services and life safety arena beginning as a volunteer firefighter on Long Island, NY.  Most recently, he worked for the International Code Council (ICC) as Vice President, Government Relations Department focusing on Fire Service Activities.  

He is a past president of the NY State Fire Marshals Association and served on the NY State technical building code committee when the state transitioned to the model I-Codes in 2001.  
Bruce earned a Bachelor degree in Fire Service Administration from Empire state College; Bachelor degree in Accounting from Dowling College and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
