About Rev. S.N. and Bobbie Winston, Sr. Scholarship Foundation
A native of Geiger, Alabama, Rev. Samuel N. Winston, Sr. was born April 17, 1931 to the late Deacon Jessie J. and Fannie Winston. He was one of 12 children. He attended Livingston High School and in 1948, he graduated from Sumter County Training School. Samuel Winston, Sr. studied at Alabama A & M in Normal, Alabama. He subsequently attended the American Baptist Theological Seminary in Nashville, TN. Later graduating from Wilberforce University and attending Payne Theological Seminary, both in Wilberforce, Ohio. Rev. Samuel Winston, Sr. went home to be with his heavenly father, on October 26, 2016. His remarkable life and dynamic ministry will always be remembered by the thousands of souls in which he touched during his 46 plus years of service to the Kingdom of God.
Mrs. Bobbie J. Winston is a native of Jefferson, TX. She was born on October 1, 1933 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Major & Delilah Reece. She is one of 12 children. Due to her early diagnosis of epilepsy, Bobbie was home schooled. While other children were out playing, Bobbie studied hard and as a result, graduated high school at the tender age of 16. After her youngest child was born, she went back to school and matriculated at Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio.
Reverend & Mrs. Winston have five children of their own, Mark Sr., Kerfinal, Lalani, Natalie and Samuel Jr. from which hailed ten grandchildren Mark Jr., Marla, Brandon, Blair, Bobbi, Annaleah, Jasmine, Christopher, Samuel III, Parker and Bailey. In addition to their own children, the couple has “parented” thousands of children in their 46 years of pastoring Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, and has shepherded countless others beyond those hallowed walls.
Well known for their active lives in the community, their influence is felt locally as well as internationally. With a ministry of encouragement, these powerhouses have traveled the globe sharing the love of Jesus Christ. It is only befitting, then, that Mt. Calvary’s scholarship program should be named for these PILLARS in history.
