January Virtual Breakfast Seminar 1/12/22
Grouting Reinforced Masonry Structures Presented by: Dan Siteman, EIT Director of Industry Development & Technical Services International Masonry Institute
January 12, 2022  ·  PA
The introduction of grout and reinforcement in structural masonry has expanded masonry’s performance characteristics allowing for taller heights and thinner profiles. Provisions of the code and standards have become more efficient over the past few cycles, yielding to higher productivity in the field. This presentation will cover basic grouting and reinforcement requirements for structural masonry. Considerations for correct grout and reinforcement placement, tolerances, grout cover, consolidation of grout and placement of anchor bolts are discussed.

Learning Objectives
1.    Understand the important role that grout and reinforcement play in a masonry wall.
2.    Learn about ASTM standards relating to grout, reinforcement, and testing methods; as well as TMS 402/602 requirements.
3.    Recognize different material options and methods for grout, and reinforcement, as well as their associated placement requirements.
4.    Develop a feel for a balanced design that maximizes material efficiency and productivity in the field.
