Relationship-centered family engagement and family-school partnerships centered on students yield positive academic and social-emotional outcomes, and have a profound impact on school culture. And, it’s really hard work! How can schools, educators, families and community partners move from transactional relationships to truly transformative partnerships?
Join the Community Schools Learning Exchange (CSLX) on March 18th to gain insights, learn new strategies, and access practical resources that can help community school practitioners, district leads, and school teams reinvigorate their relationships with families. This 90-minute session will help you take a clear-eyed look at the current state of your school and family partnerships, develop a deeper understanding of how to take these partnerships to the next level, chart a course to get from here to there–and forge new connections to other people doing similar work so you can continue conversations after the session ends.
Participants in this session will:
Learn how transformational family engagement is a key practice of community school systems;
Review a wide array of approaches to transformational family engagement;
Vision, plan, and problem-solve transformational family engagement strategies.
During this session, participants will engage in thoughtful dialogue with peers, share their own experiences and learn from the experiences of others, and tap into the expertise of Dr. James Bridgeforth and Dr. Karina Ruiz, two long-time community school practitioners, family engagement researchers and strategists, and community builders.
Note: This session will be highly interactive. Participants will be expected to review and reflect on materials they will receive prior to the workshop.

What is Community School Building Blocks?
CSLX’s Community School Building Blocks sessions are designed to offer essential grounding in the critical elements of community school development. Other Community School Building Blocks sessions may focus on the role of the Community School Coordinator, Advisory Councils, and more.
Who, specifically, is this for?
The Transformational Family Engagement workshop is designed specifically for school-site and LEA-level practitioners and teams looking to deepen and strengthen their relationships with families, and their practices and strategies for building those relationships.
Who from my team should I bring?
Bring colleagues who work on the ground to lead your community school strategy at school sites. These can be community school coordinators, principals, teachers, and/or those at the district-level that lead your community school initiatives.
How much does it cost and what is included?
The fee for each individual is $200.00 per person. Those coming with their teams should pay a registration fee for each person who is attending.
I have a group of people from my team/LEA who want to attend. Should we just register individually for these virtual learning sessions?
If you’d like a large team of more than 10 people to go through this training together, contact us at love@cslx.org so we can help you determine what type of opportunity might be the most impactful for your team.
Will workshops be recorded?
The workshop presentation and group community share-outs will be recorded and shared with workshop registrants after the workshop. Breakout group discussions held during each workshop will not be recorded. Recordings will be shared within a week after the workshop and will be available for 30 days.
How can I access the tools and materials we discuss once we’re done?
Registered participants will receive the materials and resources we cover through a shared Google Drive folder.
We’ve only just started trying to build out our family engagement practices. Should my team still attend?
Yes! This workshop is designed for anyone who works on family engagement, read: almost everyone that is part of community school work.
I’m looking for personalized support to strengthen my family engagement strategies and practices. Will I get that here?
No. This is a participatory, introductory session that is designed to give you the tools, strategies, and resources to strengthen your school/ family relationships. During the workshop, there will be opportunities to share out about your individual contexts during small group breakouts, but no individualized support.
What if I want more one-on-one support?
We’d love to hear more! Just send us a note at love@cslx.org so we can discuss other options that might enable us to provide you with more individualized support.
What if I can no longer attend and need to cancel my registration? Will I get a refund?
Cancellation requests must be communicated to CSLX no later than Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in order to receive a refund. Please note that you will be charged a 10% fee for administration costs associated with your cancellation and that partial refunds are not available. You may request a cancellation by emailing register@cslx.org.
I still have more questions!
