Join North Carolina public school auxiliary service leaders to network and learn about public school maintenance, facilities, transportation, and nutrition services and growing auxiliary service leaders in these areas.

In an effort to bring the best ideas forward, share lessons learned, and to create a leadership pipeline in the area of auxiliary services, we are inviting school and district leaders along with auxiliary services employees to this event.

In July, superintendents will be notified by NCDPI School Planning to complete the Five-Year Facility Needs Survey required by state law for all public school districts. This session will outline that process.
The evolution of school bus technology can impact operations in multiple ways. The overall safety, efficiency and policy are improved with a variety of innovations including GPS and comparative analysis, student ridership, parent communications, and more.
The presentation will cover an overview of contract administration in public schools and the basic legal concepts of contract administration.
Conference participants will be provided with an overview of how to monitor and assess developing weather conditions in a way that supports making timely decisions to ensure the safety of students and staff.

School districts invest heavily in building and facility projects but struggle with long-term performance due to a lack of post-project support. This session will explore strategies for sustained success.
This session will discuss how to ensure that a school district's emergency response plan for student reunification is effective, efficient, and coordinated in the event of an emergency so that students are safely reunited with their parents or guardians.
Davie County Schools recently purchased the OPENGATE weapons detection system for each campus. This session will give an overview of the process of selecting a product and implementing it at each campus.
This session will discuss ways to increase your district's bus ridership, TIMS operations, and increase overall budget/efficiency rating. This presentation is primarily suited for transportation administration (Directors, Supervisors, Cost Clerks, TIMS)
This session covers six key steps for successful change management including communication, leadership alignment, and user adoption strategies and also will include a real-world example of software for actionable insights.

Tropical Storm Helene devastated Western North Carolina posing significant challenges for Buncombe County Schools. This presentation will share key lessons learned by the Auxiliary Service Teams (Facilities, Child Nutrition, and Transportation).
Buster the Bus is an interactive, remote-controlled miniature version of a school bus. Our presentation will be a rendition of the show that we perform for all 19 of our Elementary Schools.
What happens when a school is unable to field a complete team? How can the concept of cooperative agreements in high school athletics play a part in keeping the program alive?

Steve Basnight

Superintendent Basnight's experience with disaster recovery stems from growing up on the Outer Banks of NC and as Superintendent in Hyde County during the destruction of Ocracoke Island and Ocracoke School following Hurricane Dorian in September 2019.

Buster (the) Bus

Thomas Dudley leads the OREd (Operations Research and Education Lab) group at NC State University. Thomas has over 10 years of experience assisting districts across the state though long-range facility planning and student assignment projects.

Marcus Edwards

Marcus works with school districts across the country navigating change. Currently with FMX, Marcus was previously the maintenance technology supervisor at Buncombe County Schools where he helped train staff to do their work electronically using a CMMS.

Dr. Tracy Grit
