The Surgical Oncology CME Summit was recorded on Friday, October 28, 2022. The Webinar Recording will be available until October 2023
The objective of this course is to inform general surgeons of the recent advances in cancer management and to do so in a manner that allows the course participants to rapidly assimilate new information into their surgical practice. This course covers the most recent and relevant data regarding diagnosis and staging, surgical technique, avoidance and management of complications, and adjuvant therapies. The course emphasizes recent advances in the management of gastrointestinal malignancies, hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignancies, colorectal cancer, melanoma, and sarcoma. The criteria for faculty selection are clinical expertise and teaching effectiveness. The course format includes didactic lectures, case presentations, and panel discussions to provide more time for participants to interact with faculty and peers. The course is designed to facilitate the integration of the most current surgical oncology concepts into clinical practice.
- Apply appropriate staging strategies for patients with solid organ malignancies of the gastrointestinal, pancreas, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and soft tissue systems.
- Evaluate the impact of surgical technique on clinical outcome for the aforementioned malignancies.
- Identify which patients should be considered for neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapy.
- Adopt new strategies for optimizing efficiency in the operating room without compromising clinical outcome.
The target audience for this course is the community-based general surgeon who treats a variety of cancers. We welcome participation of allied health professionals including nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are integral members of the treatment team. Surgical residents in training and surgical oncology fellows are encouraged to participate in the course.
