Social and Emotional Learning Through Literacy
We will engage in social and emotional learning activities using various forms of literacy (text, image, video) as a way to develop students' affect and critical thinking skills.
8:30 AM - 9:15 AMFri
Students will write, read and discuss throughout the unit, which has been adapted from the Jacob's Ladder Advanced Reading Comprehension Program. Students will work to develop self-awareness, metacognition, and goal-setting. Students will explore texts such as "Ish" by Peter H. Reynolds to understand the concepts of risk and resilience. They will view media and art in work by Ron Berger to help understand the concept of constructive feedback and high expectations. The unit is presented in a child-friendly manner to explore deep concepts that explore understanding of ourselves and others.
