This session will focus on the “ordeal of bitter water,” a biblical ritual women are subjected to if their husbands suspect adulterous behaviour. We will discuss how the Kohanim/Sanhedrin function as institutions to invent a specific truth about the woman's actions. We will then try to use this as a basis to discuss the institutions in our own lives that create truths. In a time of increasing global factionalism, how can we arrive at a common ground where we can debate truthfully?
