The session will develop a foundation as the participants explore the definitions of alexithymia (associated with neuroticism and diminished executive function, caused by dysfunctional emotion regulation), Machiavellian leadership (associated with cunning and ruthlessness), and principal-agent relationships then identify the social and emotional implications for each. A comparison and contrast with transformational leadership is expected to illustrate how alexithymia and Machiavellian leadership influence principal-agent relationships. Examination of game design decisions and how they can be used to influence and sustain behavior changes will be used to inform emotionally intelligent interventions in game design. Evaluation of principal-agent decisions and speculation of outcomes of interventions will be conducted from an emotional intelligence viewpoint.
At the conclusion of the workshop session, the participants will be able to
1. Define and identify instances of alexithymia, Machiavellian leadership, and principal-agent relationships in organizations.
2. Compare and contrast alexithymia and Machiavellian leadership with transformative leadership and the influence of each on the principal-agent relationship.
3. Examine game design decisions that can be used to influence and sustain behavior changes.
4. Speculate the outcomes of emotionally intelligent interventions using gaming to moderate alexithymia and Machiavellian leadership traits
