According to SHRM, mental health has emerged as one of the most critical issues of our time. As HR practitioners, we think you’d agree with that statement. We also know that every individual employee has a mental health status, just as they each have an age and race. When we view mental health as an expansive continuum between good mental health and serious mental health, we know that many people can fluctuate on the milder end of the spectrum due to the normal challenges of life, while others may fluctuate within the range of mental illness. Most employees can work ‘successfully’, especially when mental health is understood and supported by their employer. This training, based upon SHRM-related resources, is an opportunity for HR practitioners to review and discuss the 4 A’s of a Mental Health Friendly Workplace: Awareness, Accommodations, Assistance, and Access. Learning Objectives for this session include: Explain how to build mental health awareness and a supportive culture Discuss ADA accommodations and available employer resources Recognize the variety of assistance opportunities available to employees Understand an employers’ options in providing employees with access to treatment
