Building a strong union requires more than increasing membership. It requires developing leaders, redistributing power, and centering the voices of those most often left out. In this hands-on session, educators and education support professionals will learn how to operationalize equity in their organizing and leadership practices. Participants will explore tools to identify gaps in participation and leadership, strengthen engagement across roles, and create structures that support shared decision-making. Together, we will explore the difference between inclusion and true equity, and how shifting from engagement to shared leadership can transform union culture and effectiveness. Through small-group discussions and scenario-based practice, attendees will develop concrete next steps they can implement immediately in their local unions. This session is ideal for those ready to move from intention to action and build a union that is both powerful and equitable.
