Money and Daddy: Social Responsibility and Hollywood’s «Jewish American Princess»
This lecture explores representations of Jewish women on screen, focusing on young protagonists from wealthy families who use their privileged positions for social good, including: Private Benjamin (starring Goldie Hawn, 1980), Dirty Dancing (Jennifer Grey as Frances Houseman, 1987), and Clueless (Alicia Silverstone plays Cher Horowitz, 1995). By contextualising and analysing these films, we see how and why the heroines challenge negative stereotypes and provide positive images of Jewish women
