The incidence of chronic disease and ill health is increasing across all age groups globally, with the concentration and number of toxic compounds in the environment having been identified as an important contributing factor. Primary exogenous environmental toxins include heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, solvents and plasticisers, with evidence suggesting that toxin burden is likely to become an increasing health problem in the future.
To support detoxification from environmental toxins optimally, we need to consider which toxins are of greatest concern to the individual, as well as taking into account the individual’s health as this influences their ability to detoxify and eliminate toxins. This presentation aims to provide insights into the various environmental toxins as well as treatment strategies to support personalised patient care with respect to environmental detoxification.
