Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Many American authors have a different native language. Spanish is widely spoken in the U.S. and across the Americas. American authors from Spanish-speaking backgrounds are highly diverse. Yet, they still share many cultural-linguistic attributes that lend to particular patterns in writing. In this presentation, we will review differences between Spanish and English that might cause issues for Spanish-speaking authors who aim to publish in English. We’ll contrast the two languages and major cultural differences to provide English-domininant editors/publishers with a better understanding of the nature and purpose of communication from a Latino perspective.
