The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian fosters a more informed understanding of Indigenous peoples by changing established, harmful narratives and amplifying Indigenous voices and perspectives. Publications Manager Tanya Thrasher (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) and Writer/Editor Arwen Nuttall present an inside look into the publications office’s approach to working with Indigenous content, authors, consultants, and communities. They provide an editorial framework that centers Indigenous knowledge and relationship building and discuss some key questions to ask when working with Indigenous content.
