Keynote & Engaged Scholarship Awards Luncheon- Featuring Dr. Nancy Trevino
“The Texas Tech Mental Health Initiative (TTMHI)”
Over five years ago, long before the COVID-19 pandemic arrived in the the South Plains, leaders from Texas Tech and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) began assessing the mental health-related activities at each institution. The leaders found a wealth of expertise across Texas Tech and TTUHSC, so they created university partnerships with more than a dozen areas dealing with mental health, including TTU’s Burkhart Center for Autism and the Center for Adolescent Resiliency, as well as the TTUHSC’s Campus Alliance for Telehealth Resources, the Psychiatry Clinic, the School of Nursing, and many more. Thus, the Texas Tech Mental Health Initiative (TTMHI) was born. By September 2018, TTMHI had partnered with a group of stakeholders from across the community: representatives from the City of Lubbock, Lubbock County, University Medical Center, Covenant Health System and StarCare Specialty Health System, in addition to those from Texas Tech and TTUHSC. Many more have been added since, including TTU HSC campuses in Amarillo, Abilene, and the Permian Basin. Dr. Wakefield will discuss the extensive partnerships and collaborations that have been formed through TTMHI, and how they have led to the creation of numerous programs and initiatives that are making a difference in human lives and creating long-lasting impacts on West Texas communities.
