Tim Wise will address the role of young people in the fight for social justice and equity. Historically and in the present-day, young people have always been instrumental in the quest for a more equitable society. But as politicians take aim at racial equity initiatives in schools (and curriculum addressing LGBTQ persons and struggles) they are clearly suggesting that young people are incapable of handling material about racism, homophobia, and other serious matters of social importance. How can young folks respond to the attacks on their right to learn and to think critically? How are young people already fighting back against some of these efforts by their elders? And how can more teens and young adults join the fight?
