This session will provide an overview of key employment laws that all supervisors and hiring managers should know and understand. The discussion will include practical tips for avoiding legal pitfalls at all stages of employment.
During this session, participants will receive an overview of key federal employment laws that apply to public school employers including, but not limited to, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Participants will also review and discuss key do's and don'ts associated with the hiring and firing of employees. Participants will learn best practices for how to structure and facilitate legally-compliant interviews, accommodating employees with disabilities, and ensuring proper documentation at every stage of the employment relationship. Finally, the session will review enforcement mechanisms of the Equal Employment opportunity Commission.
