At Moore Magnet Elementary School, the STEAM magnet coordinator and the School Librarian/Media Coordinator (SLMC) collaborate to provide comprehensive computer science instruction integrated with Common Core standards. In this session we describe our vertical alignment starting with non-tech coding skill building in K-2, coding skill building in K-5, and integrated technology lessons 2-5. Participants will leave with plans for coding in their own schools/classrooms.
Participants will engage in center work using:
- Modified non-tech coding activity we use in Kindergarten called Rosie's Runtime
- RoboWunderkind to build and code a digital clock to display analog clock times (2nd grade math standard).
- Matatalab to code a robot to follow the sequence of a story (2nd grade ELA standard) OR to code a robot to visit the places you would find sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks to obtain a rock sample and describe it (4th grade science standard).
