This K-5 session supports teachers in developing engineering mindsets in elementary classrooms by engaging students in the Science and Engineering Practices (SEPs) through authentic, hands-on learning. Participants will explore how elementary students can move from identifying a problem to designing, testing, and improving solutions using age-appropriate engineering challenges. Teachers will experience a model lesson that emphasizes key SEPs, including asking questions and defining problems, developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, and engaging in evidence-based discussions. The session highlights strategies for fostering persistence, collaboration, creativity, and productive struggle while integrating engineering seamlessly into science instruction.
