Join us for a fun-filled session of crafting and coding! Bring your laptop and learn how to use block coding to build your own interactive game AND bring your cutting and coloring skills to create cool characters. In our work with pre-service elementary school teachers we combine digital making with hands-on making to demonstrate the engineering design process and reinforce literacy standards. Attendees will play a Scratch game and remix it with their own features AND create a cardboard character of their own design. Youll walk away with a list of picture books that can be tied to making activities and free/low cost resources your students will love to fashion into their own creative projects. Each of these activities follow the simplified engineering process. Making 2.0 is all about striking a balance between physical and digital tinkering, allowing young students to sharpen their computer skills while allowing space for hands-on creativity with everyday objects and crafting supplies
