This roundtable will enable participants to reflect on past and current research on sexism and sexual harassment in psychology training. The discussion will guide participants to ways of identifying and addressing harassment with students and trainees, with attention to the bystander impact on colleagues and peers. The discussion will also focus on identifying gaps or needs in current systems, such as the potential need to update policies and advocating for students. Intersectionality and the contemporary incorporation/use of technology in harassment (e.g. sexting, social media, trolling) will be explored. Presenters will draw on results of the experiences of diverse women who participated in a national mixed-methods study of sexism and sexual harassment in clinical psychology. Their voices, particularly regarding their wishes for interventions by those in power and advice for others, will be included.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to discuss and assess the past and recent data on sexism and sexual harassment in the field of psychology.
2. Participants will be able to identify, explore, and critique how new factors, such as technology, and under-researched factors, such as intersecting identities, increase the pressure and challenges for targets of harassment.
3. Participants will be ale to implement ways to identify and address harassment with peers, students, and trainees.
