As our country becomes more and more diverse, our curriculum must evolve as well. It is important to include relevant and contemporary content in our courses that supports understanding and highlights equitable treatment of marginalized populations. Increased emphasis in these areas has the potential of resulting in more effective interventions with marginalized populations and raising the profession's accountability to these groups. This presentation will specifically examine the meaning of social justice in the educational arena and how to integrate social justice principles into the classroom while drawing upon contemporary research and teaching expertise.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will demonstrate an understanding of social justice concepts as they relate to the educational arena.
2. Participants will examine and discuss their own classroom practices as they relate to social justice principles.
3. Participants will create a plan for how to integrate social justice principles into the courses they teach.
