This workshop provides a process for how to approach challenging conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion topics (including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, systemic oppression) in a way that promotes openness and facilitates meaningful conversations. Join Alicia del Prado, Ph.D. co-author of It’s Time to Talk (and Listen): How to Have Constructive Conversations About Race, Class, Sexuality, Ability, and Gender in a Polarized World (2019) to learn about using the 8-step Kim Constructive Conversations Model (KCCM) in academic settings. Adopting an individualized plan for avoiding common barriers and maximizing personal success will be emphasized. Learning Objectives Participants will be able to: 1. Describe each of the 8 steps of Kim’s Constructive Conversation Model (KCCM) for guiding difficult conversations about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in academic settings with students, faculty, administration, and staff. 2. Apply the constructive conversation steps to scenarios you encounter in your professional role.
