Breakout Session - The Restorative Power of Music on the Mind of Alzheimer’s
This presentation will help improve the personal wellness of individuals with Alzheimer's and their caregivers and provide new techniques for delivering patient care services.
Research indicates that familiar and favorable music from an individual's past can stimulate episodic memories. Nostalgic music can enable the individual to sing along and recall past experiences that would otherwise remain masked. In addition, music can provide a motivating and familiar avenue for dance which serves as an enjoyable form of physical activity. Utilizing music is a powerful tool to help professionals increase the quality of life of people with Alzheimer's.
Objectives:
Participants will identify the efficacy of music for improving participation in individuals with Alzheimer's and related dementias. Participants will identify at least two strategies to implement into patient care with individuals with Alzheimer's and related dementias to improve their quality of life.
