Writing Directly to Patients: Results Letters, Visit Summaries, and Email -- A Skill-Building Workshop
Afternoon Breakout Session
3:15 PM - 4:45 PMThu
This is a Communication domain course.
Clear communication and plain language principles for written health information have been well-described. Very little, however, has been done to improve healthcare professionals' skills at writing directly to patients and caregivers. Clinicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other health professionals often must produce customized written information for patients quickly at the point of care. This information includes test results letters, after visit summaries, hospital and emergency department discharge summaries, and email communications. Appropriate for attendees with beginning to advanced knowledge of health literacy principles, this skill-building workshop will apply evidence-based practices to efficiently creating customized written messages.
