Breakout: Regional Impacts of Climate Change Across Minnesota and the Future of Tourism
This session will share new, highly localized climate projections for Minnesota and explore how tourism marketing efforts can adapt to the challenges and opportunities of a changing climate.
Minnesota’s tourism industry thrives on its diverse attractions, from Nordic skiing in the winter to camping in the summer. However, our changing climate is beginning to reshape the experiences we’ve long enjoyed. Warmer winters, earlier springs, and more frequent extreme precipitation events are disrupting seasonal patterns and creating new challenges for tourism destinations across the state. Observations show that we are already seeing the impacts of climate change, and these changes are expected to intensify in the coming years.
While climate change affects the entire state, its impacts vary regionally and seasonally, presenting both challenges and opportunities for tourism destinations. Communities, industries and leaders need to understand the specific impacts to their region in order to prepare for and adapt to these changes. This session, led by experts from the University of Minnesota’s Climate Adaptation Partnership (MCAP) and the Tourism Center, will share new, highly localized climate projections for Minnesota and explore how tourism marketing efforts can adapt to the challenges and opportunities of a changing climate.
