Shifting is a fact of library life. Often, this physical component of stack maintenance falls to the Access Services staff who may not have the time or energy to complete a large-scale move on their own. This can bring down morale and bring up other solutions such as hiring an outside group to move the materials. With this poster, I will share my experiences moving large collections at two different University libraries by enabling cross-departmental collaboration and hands-on help. I will provide the list of detailed questions to review before the project begins to help your team determine a reasonable timeline and workload. This preplanning can pave the way for honest dialogue regarding the benefits and cost-effectiveness of keeping a large collection shift in-house.
