In October 1999, the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) allocated the 5.9 GHz band for DSRC-based ITS applications and adopted basic technical rules for DSRC operations.
In doing so, the Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) industry now had a path to commercializing technologies to enable automated driving and a variety of other roadway safety use cases. A lot has changed in 25 years.
In this session, we will briefly summarize technical and regulatory changes since 1999 and focus mostly on how the automotive industry is now embracing and implementing V2X as a combination of technologies working together to deliver safety-centric outcomes for drivers and automated driving systems.
