Serving as a Private Guardian ad Litem (PGAL) requires careful judgment, clear professional boundaries, and the ability to gather, evaluate and present to the Court, information from parents, children, attorneys, therapists, schools, and other collateral sources. In this practical training, attorneys Virginia Sudbury and Kacy Crandall address the PGAL's role in family court proceedings, and managing expectations about what the PGAL can and cannot do.
Participants will receive practical guidance on responding to common challenges including (but certainly not limited to) payment, discovery, investigative and hearsay issues, throughout a case and at trial. Attendees will leave with a clearer framework as well as useful tips and tools for approaching PGAL appointments.
