In 2023, Kamehameha Schools completed restoration of the lower portion of the Punalu'u Stream to enchance ecological and hydrologic function of the stream, but also to help with flood control and sediment retention. This will have a long lasting impact on the generation of farmers, kamaainaa, and keiki that live, work, and play in the ahupua'a. The key takeaway from this tour will be 1) community consultation and engagement in project design and implementation 2) integrated resource management planning to achieve multiple benefits 3) place-based incorporation of traditional ecological knowledge in planning.
