Transportation connects all Hawaiʻi communities, making it central to all planning efforts. The Navahine v. settlement and HDOT’s new Energy Security & Waste Reduction Plan are reshaping how the Department sets priorities and collaborates with communities and environmental groups. This workshop will highlight how planners can help implement the Plan and advance the State’s emissions reduction goals. It will focus on youth engagement, inclusive governance, diverse partnerships, change management, and the role of policy + planning in building long-term resilience. With HDOT currently accepting public comments on the draft Plan, the workshop offers planners a key opportunity to shape the Plan and leverage its strategies to support their own resilience planning efforts in public and private sectors.
