This session will highlight the results of the first-ever community-based Thrive with Pride LGBTQ Aging Survey conducted after community-wide input under the direction of Boonshoft Pride at Boonshoft Medical School, Rainbow Elder Care, and Public Health – Dayton & Montgomery County. The session will review the community-based process and provide highlights of the results and a comparison to some other similar surveys conducted elsewhere, including national surveys. The results provide some guidance about needs and development of future services and spurred a task force to develop affordable inclusive/affirming housing for older LGBTQ adults. The Thrive with Pride Survey is the first major survey of LGBTQ older adults in Ohio, with a focus on people in the southwest Ohio Miami Valley area. The survey was developed with input from LGBTQ people from across the community and was administered in a collaborative manner led by LGBTQ people from Rainbow Elder Care, Boonshoft Medical School/Boonshoft Pride and Public Health – Dayton & Montgomery County. It provides the first glimpse into the needs of older LGBTQ adults in the Miami Valley and provides some guidance about needed support and services.
