Literacy is a key factor in addressing societal inequities and a tool for personal empowerment. It allows people to access information, exercise their rights, and participate in decision-making. Participating in bibliotherapy and by extension written expression one is able to see there is more that connects us than divides us. Building a sense of community leads us to open our doors, hearts and minds to one another. Participants will engage in a reading and writing workshop experience that can be repeated in their classrooms, meeting rooms, and/learning spaces. They will leave with culturally responsive book suggestions, writing prompts, resources and tools to build authentic literacy communities among their underserved populations.
