This program will examine disproportionality, defined by the National Center for Learning Disabilities as the trend of students from certain racial and ethnic groups being over-identified for special education and disciplined at higher rates. The session will also debunk common myths surrounding communication disorders and their identification. Finally, we will outline the school-to-prison pipeline, emphasizing how misidentification contributes to this issue and offer strategies to address these disparities.
