Brennan Brennecke Owner/Lead Instructor Brennan’s unique perspective of training has been based around a balance of both defensive and competitive shooting. He has had the distinct privilege of being able to train under a wide variety of instructors across the industry, ranging from multiple IPSC World Champions, SWAT Operators, Special Operations snipers, USPSA Grandmasters, and many others. His training has spanned topics including competition shooting, concealed carry, CQB, night vision, long-range precision rifle, scoped carbine, low light, weapons-based grappling, and more. He formerly taught as an instructor for Spectrain, a training company located in North Carolina. From there he moved on to work as the Lead Pistol Instructor for two years at Vortex Edge, the training division of Vortex Optics. Brennan is now the owner and Lead Instructor of Gateway Defense Training LLC where he travels the country teaching pistol and rifle classes with a heavy emphasis on performance shooting. He is passionate about helping people learn to increase their performance by exploring the key principles of shooting, learning to track their progress using quantifiable metrics, and developing a structured path for self-improvement. When he's not teaching, he is busy producing educational content for the Gateway Defense YouTube channel, revolving around the topic of performance shooting.
Course description:
1 Day Performance Pistol
This single day version of our flagship Performance Pistol class is packed with information and tons of shooting! Students should expect to work on establishing a baseline of the fundamentals, and then to quickly move on to more advanced applications. Students will learn how to prioritize your training for the maximum return on investment for your time, money, effort, and ammo and will learn to differentiate between the two main modes of training: exploration vs execution!
Topics Covered:
The fundamentals of grip, sight management, and trigger control
Stance, recoil management, and faster splits
Practical accuracy from 5 yards 25 yards +
Visual confirmation levels: identifying and applying the correct sighting solution for targets of any given size/distance
OWB draw: consistently finding the dot on the draw, and applying efficiency principles to execute the infamous “scoop” draw on both competition and level 1 retention holsters
Target transitions: targets at varying distances and sizes, close and wide transitions
Movement: entries and exits, blending positions, shooting on the move
Hit Factor scoring: how to utilize HF to properly measure both speed and accuracy and strike the best balance of both
Minimum Gear Requirements:
A modern, reliable, semi-automatic pistol chambered in .380, 9mm, .40 S&W, or .45 ACP. A backup gun is not necessary, but recommended.
At least 3-4 serviceable magazines with a minimum capacity of 10 rounds. The more magazines the better.
A Kydex holster that fully encapsulates the trigger guard (either OWB or IWB, no small of the back) or a duty holster such as Safariland 6000 or 7000 series holsters. No SERPA, nylon, or leather holsters allowed.
A sturdy gun belt (concealed carry belt or battle belt/competition belt style).
Minimum of 2 magazine carriers.
600 rounds of ammunition
Eye protection (both clear and tinted recommended)
Ear protection (electronic hearing protection required)
Water and snacks
Tools to service your optics, lights, holsters, guns, etc.
Spare batteries for optics and lights.
Rain gear (we train rain or shine)
